Description

Akki roti is a rice-based meal item unique to the state of Karnataka, India. Akki roti means “rice bread” in the native language, Kannada. It is made of rice flour which is mixed with salt and water and kneaded well till the dough gets soft.

Ingredients

  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup curd
  • 2 tbsp chia seed
  • ¼ carrot
  • 3 tsp coconut oil
  • ¼ onion
  • 1 tbsp ginger
  • 1 green chili
  • 1 tsp curry leaves
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 cup sunflower seed powder
  • 2 tbsp sesame seed powder

Preparation Method

  • In a bowl, mix sunflower seed flour, sesame seed powder, chia seed powder, onion, carrot, curry leaves, green chili, ginger, salt, and cumin seeds.
  • Add hot water and knead to a roti dough consistency. Pat over a banana leaf or aluminum foil.
  • Make some holes in between so that roti can absorb oil. Smear some oil over the roti, cook on medium flame, flip over, and cook on both sides.
  • Serve with accompaniment.
