Beans Palya

Beans Palya is a classic South Indian recipe usually composed of a single vegetable chopped into bite-size pieces and sautéed in oil that has been seasoned with black mustard seeds, asafetida, chile, and curry leaves

  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp grated coconut
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 cup beans
  • 2 dry chilli
  • 1 tbsp curry leaves
  • 1 pinch asafoetida
  • ½ cup water
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add the mustard seeds.
  • On a low flame, fry the mustard seeds, fry till the mustard splutters.
  • Add the dry red chili, curry leaves, turmeric powder, and asafoetida. Mix well.
  • Now add the chopped french beans.
  • Saute for a minute and then add ½ cup water along with salt.
  • Cover and cook till the french beans are tender and done.
  • Once the beans are cooked till tender, add the grated coconut. Switch off the stove and stir.
  • Serve the french beans palya hot or warm with accompaniments.
