Chana Dal

Prepared Time: 15m      Cook Time: 15m      Serves 4 People

A healthy nutritious dal that provides us with protein and is great in taste

  • ½ cup chana daal (soaked for 30 minutes)
  • 2tbsp oil
  • ¾ tsp rai
  • ½ jeera
  • 1 dried red chili
  • Pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  • Few curry leaves
  • 1 ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 green chili
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • ½ tsp Kashmiri red chili powder
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ tsp coriander powder
  • 2 cups water
  • 2tbsp coriander leaves
  • Add dal and 2 cups of water to a cooker and give it a good mix
  • Pressure cook it for 4~6 whistles or till the dal is cooked well
  • Open the vessel and give it a good stir Then add oil in a pan and add rai, jeera, red chili, hing, and curry leaves
  • Saute them till they splutter also add ginger, chili, and garlic.
  • Add onions and fry them until they are translucent
  • Add tomatoes and saute them until they are soft and mushy
  • Now add chili powder, turmeric, coriander powder, and salt.
  • Saute for a minute
  • Put the mixture prepared in the pressure cooker with the daal
  • Check for seasonings and adjust if required.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves
