Chila are Indian savoury pancakes. They are nutritious and can be fortified with the addition of vegetables or paneer. A dash of spices enhances the taste greatly!

  • ½ to 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp sunflower seeds
  • 3 tbsp sesame seeds
  • ¼ turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp ghee
  • ½ tomato
  • ½ tbsp psyllium husk
  • 5 almonds
  • 2 tbsp onions
  • ½ tsp ginger
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves
  • 1 pinch asafoetida
  • 6 tbsp water
  • ½ tsp ajwain
  • Heat a pan over medium heat. Dry roast sunflower seeds and sesame seeds.
  • Grind roasted seeds, almonds and water into a smooth batter.
  • Add finely chopped onion, tomato, ajwain, turmeric powder, ginger, psyllium husk, coriander leaves, and salt to the batter and mix well.
  • Tip: You can use 3 tbsp cheese instead of psyllium husk.
  • Heat a non-stick tawa on low heat. Ladle out half the batter, spread over tawa, and sprinkle with ghee. Cover cheela with a lid and cook for 3 minutes.
  • Repeat the previous step with the remaining batter.
  • Serve warm with your favourite accompaniment.
