Dhokla

Dhokla is a vegetarian culinary dish that is found mainly in the Indian state of Gujarat and parts of adjacent states.

  • Salt according to taste.
  • 1 Tsp baking powder
  • 3 Tbsp curd
  • 1 Tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 Tbsp mustard seeds
  • 5 Tbsp coconut oil
  • 30 Tbsp almonds
  • 9 Tbsp watermelon seeds
  • 1 Tbsp curry leaves
  • 5 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 Tsp asafetida
  • 3 Tbsp water
  • Soak almonds in water and peel the skin. Soak melon seed with 3 tbsp water in another bowl for 2 hrs.
  • Grind melon seed and almonds with melon seed soaked water like Rava consistency. Take a bowl and add ground flour, curd, salt, turmeric powder, lemon juice, baking soda and mix well.
  • Grease a plate with ghee, pour the batter and cook in an idli vessel for 15 Minutes. Once dhokla is cooked, removed it from the plate and cut into pieces.
  • Heat a pan with oil, add mustard seeds, when it starts popping, add thing and curry leaves. Finally, add tempering on top of the dhokla and serve hot with the chutney.
